Tree Risk Assessment
Formal evaluation using International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) standards
A Tree Risk Assessment uses established criteria to identify a risk rating for a tree and its parts within a given time frame. The assessment considers likelihood of failure, likelihood of impact, and severity of consequences. I maintain a Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) through ISA.
Types of Tree Risk Assessments:
Level 1 - Typically used to evaluate large groups of trees and determine high priority concerns in a short amount of time.
Level 2 - Best for an individual tree or a small number of trees that have experienced recent limb failure or storm damage, exhibit signs of internal decay, or are otherwise of concern. May require use of simple tools such as a sounding mallet and probe. (This level is most common in residential settings.)
Level 3 Assessments - Advanced analysis using specialized equipment, testing, etc. Typically reserved for high value and/or historic trees.
